Vitenskapsfolk forutser at solflekke syklus nr 24 vil ha sitt maksimum i mai 2013 med et gjennomsnittlig antall solflekker på 90 pr dag. Dette fastslo et internasjonalt panel av eksperter på den årlige "Space Weather Workshop" i Bolder., Colorado siste måned. Dersom denne prognosen slår til så vil solflekkesyklus nr 24 være den svakeste siden syklus nr 16 med sine gjennomsnittlige 78 daglige solflekker i 1928, og være den 9. dårligste siden man startet nummerering av syklus i 1750.
